Who We Are
The Holocaust Survivor Program at Selfhelp is dedicated to supporting survivors by fostering meaningful connections through compassionate volunteer engagement.
Our volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for these individuals, who carry unique stories and experiences.
Purpose: Volunteers offer companionship and emotional support to Holocaust survivors, many of whom face social isolation and health challenges as they age.
Activities: Volunteers engage in meaningful conversations and spend quality time together, fostering genuine connections.
Training and Support: Volunteers receive comprehensive training to understand the unique needs of survivors and to approach their experiences with sensitivity and respect. Ongoing volunteer support is provided to ensure a fulfilling volunteer experience.
Community Impact: By participating in this program, volunteers contribute to a supportive community, ensuring that survivors feel valued, heard and connected.
Flexibility: We understand that volunteers have diverse commitments and our program offers flexible scheduling to accommodate individual availability while ensuring consistent support for survivors.
Join us making a difference in the lives of Holocaust survivors, honoring their stories, and creating a compassionate community. Your involvement can profoundly impact both your life and the life of a Holocaust survivor.
What We Do
There are many ways to get involved to support a Holocaust survivor in our community!
You can volunteer to make weekly phone calls to an isolated survivor; you can volunteer as a weekly Friendly Visitor volunteer; or you can sign up as an Event Volunteer, offering your caring presence at social event for survivors as a "coffee house" volunteer.
